Can you name a piece of art (be it a book, a film, a painting, a poem, etc.) that holds meaning to you?
This question is basically looking for an answer in the form of "I like this because it made/makes me think of [answer X]."
I'm still having problems with answering this. so I'll make a list of things that bug me or have a meaning to me which doesn't make any sense. So consider these "I strongly dislike this because it made me [answer X]
Song - Cat's in the Cradle - Harry Chapin - I have goose bumps AND a sick feeling in my stomach right now just writing out the name of it - I have a very negative reaction to this song. Its always made me feel sad / bad / mad - when I was a teenager I often would just stand up and walk out of a place if the song played.. I have no idea why it bothers me though. My Dad was available to play with me when I was a kid (at least as far as I can recall) and made anything I was involved in a priority to be a part of - and also big on taking family vacations and having "forced family fun" (tongue in cheek) things like board games or visiting with relatives. He did work a lot but it was a fixed schedule and when he left work he didn't bring it home with him - so there should be zero reason why I should identify with this song. I guess it could of been a fear of not being there for my children (or maybe not being as good as my Dad) - but that doesn't really make sense either since I've always been the type of person who takes time to play with kids if they ask - I had siblings, and I baby sat other peoples kids - heck I still have a very active imagination and really have a good time playing with hotwheels or train sets or legos. Now that I do have a son I give up my hobby time (since my work is time demanding) so that I am certain to play with him - song still bugs the shit out of me.
Peacock Feathers + females - When I was a kid I loved finding peacock feathers on the ground when I went to the zoo - I thought they were awesome, heck I probably still would. But if a girl is wearing a shirt or other clothing item with a peacock feather print I'm disturbed by it. In fact my wife makes special effort to point out people wearing such shirts.
Old Metal Toys - What probably were "awesome toys" the 40s and 50s like fast spinning metal tops that you push down a lever and it spins - or wind up metal toys of cowboys that walk? Totally creep me out, I don't want to touch em, look at them, or have them around as decoration. I so far have not found an exception to this rule.
