Hello I am plant

Before anything, I want to say that if you are a tag-carrying [N] member and you missed the cutoff for this contest, but still want to participate, let me know before the first round ends. Because of the sheer volume of competitors, the first round will be split into several groups over several days. If you get in before the end of the first round, I'll slip you into a group towards the end. You won't be able to be so picky about your time like the rest of these guys, though.

Table of some Content:
  • 1. Rules of Participation
  • 1a. Participating With an Unusual
  • 2. The Prize
  • 3. Format
  • 3x. Rounds
  • 4. Mulligans

1. Rules of Participation
Greetings, future unusual hat owner! There aren't too many rules to speak of. If you're here, you've gotten through the hard part. Don't be a troll, don't be a griefer. Basically, don't be an asshole. If you're an asshole, and it's making the competition less fun for everyone else, you can be removed. If you already HAVE an unusual, though, the competition changes for you.

1a. Participating With an Unusual
Greetings, current unusual hat owner! I'm afraid one of the main goals of this competition is to give people who can't buy a ridiculous number of keys or sit in trade servers for hours a chance at getting an unusual. Don't run away just yet, though. And don't try to hide your unusual. I've been informed that you can actually check the history of individual backpacks. If you are caught trying to hide your unusual, you will be disqualified. This doesn't mean you get nothing if you have an unusual and win, however. If you have an unusual and win, you've got two choices:

If the prize hat is better than an unusual currently in your possession (as it likely is. A towering pillar is worth 2-3 unusuals of equal effect) I'd be perfectly happy to trade, unusual-to-unusual. No sweeteners, no demands, no hassle. After a reprieve, (holding a giant competition is more stressful than you'd think)  I'll start a new competition, with your old unusual as the prize. Everybody wins.

If the prize hat is worse than your unusual hat(s)... I'm afraid I can't offer you more than a handful of vintage hats and my sincere thanks for participating. After a while, there will be another competition for the unusual.

2. The Prize
In case it wasn't clear enough, the prize for emerging victorious is an all-class unusual hat. To be specific, it's an Unusual Towering Pillar of Hats with peace signs.

3. Format
Because there are so many of you, I'll have to split you into groups until I can fit you all into a server. On the bright side, this means you'll be matched with other players close to your time zone, at least at first. I'll try my best to get everybody into time slots that are good for them, but I can't promise anything. To find out your scheduled matches, once they become scheduled, check the roster thread.

This competition is going to be a series of rounds. In each round, each team will be presented with a challenge. When the challenge ends, a certain number of people will proceed to the next round. The rest will be eliminated. Teams will then be reformed. Rinse and repeat until there's only one team left.

3a. Round One

ROUND ONE: A Class Act.
Map: CTF_2fort (The original deathmatch map)
Rules: Pretty simple. Everyone plays as the same class. Every 5 minutes, a class switch will be called. Once all the classes have been cycled through, the match ends.
Time: 45 minutes
Elimination: Top 6 scorers from each team advance, the rest are eliminated.

4. Mulligans

So, you had an off day, someone got a lucky shot, or you simply couldn't make it to your match. Don't worry, we got you.

First, let me explain what a mulligan is, then I'll explain how to get them.

In this competition, I'll be offering mulligans which can be earned or purchased. With a mulligan, you have the ability to bypass one elimination. You can do this at any point in the competition, until there are only 12 competitors left. To keep things fair, however, you can only have ONE mulligan, total. Nobody is buying their way through this competition. Mulligans are simply a second chance.

There will be three ways to get a mulligan. The first two are to earn them. I'll try to offer one of these each round. If you're eliminated and haven't earned a mulligan yet, though, you can get one the third way.

  • 1. Doing an offered job for the competition or the Newbs community outside of the game. For example: I need someone who can design a webpage in the team fortress 2 style where I can put the details of each round. Yes, that's a real offer. Contact me if you're interested.
  • 2. Achieving some sort of goal in-game. For example, I may want only one half of the people in a server to actually be up for elimination. I'd then need volunteers to fill up the other team, and I might put a mulligan up for grabs for achieving a certain goal on that team, such as highest kill-count, or funniest death-shot.
  • 3. If you're eliminated and you haven't earned a mulligan yet, you can buy back in with either one vintage hat, or two non-vintage hats. (This does not include event hats. I don't want a parasite, and dear god, if you've got Bill's hat, trade it for lots of hats and then give me one of those, don't give me the whole thing.)

I think I've covered everything, but if I've missed anything, let me know, either here or through pm! I'll be sure to clarify it in the rules ASAP.

Absolutely. Just send me an email at [email protected]

Normally, I'd ask for your steam profile, backpack, and when you're available on what days, but since you're just doing it for fun, I just need the time. :3

What if I sold an unusual, didn't have one for about 5 hours, found out about the contest right after that, forgot about the contest for about a day, and I ended up trading a load of hats in a deal I never expected to work whilst forgetting about the damn contest the next day which I was purposely waiting for to happen?! Meh! I would have waited to trade for a week if my stupid brain would stop forgetting stuff! Am I out for the unusual prize? Have I shot myself in the foot? Have I blown my foot off?

 Embarrassed

If your TF2items backpack history shows you as having had an unusual recently, I'm afraid I have no choice but to count you as someone who owns an unusual. You're still up for vintage hats as a prize, however.
