Getting Unbanned If you are banned but are remorseful, willing to not cause any other problems and would like another chance, the first thing you can do is try talking to the admin who banned you. If this doesn't work out or is impossible for whatever reason, you should file an unban request using the following link:

If you are unable to submit an unban request through sourcebans for whatever reason, you have a couple of options
(always include your steam id or a link to your steam profile!):
1. Contact Octo (the head admin) or Crap via steam or these forums A PM on the forums is usually quicker, since we can communicate without both having to be online and available at the same time.

How Long Does a Ban Protest Take? Ban protests are gone through by head admins when they have the time and may also involve contacting the original banning admin to talk about the ban, get full details, get their opinion on an unban, etc. This means it could take quite a while for your protest to be reviewed. In general, since people are banned because they have done something wrong, this can be considered a sort of cooling off period.
In short, the answer is: As long as they take, there's no set schedule.
Will I Get a Reply to My Protest? Maybe. If there is something requiring a reply. If your protest is just nonsense or you bitching at us or any of the stuff listed below, there's a good chance your protest will just be ignored.
MAKE SURE TO READ THE REST OF THIS POST BEFORE FILING A PROTEST/UNBAN REQUEST!If a person gives enough of a shit that they ask to be unbanned in a nice way, they have a good chance of being unbanned (depending on the reason for the original ban), and most people stay unbanned if they curb the disruptive behavior.
When Disputing a BanStarting a ban dispute with a negative attitude will not help your cause.
If you're banned, please think through your message before disputing the ban.
We try to be reasonable people most of the time, but we see Newbs as a place where people go to have fun, and it is the job of the admins to stop assholes from ruining that fun. We often give people second (and sometimes even third) chances, as long as they are sincere in their desire not to be assholes.
Admins issue permanent bans because they do not believe the person has any intention of being a nice, well behaved member of the community or a positive Newbs player. If an admin asks or tells you to stop doing something or issues you a warning, take the hint.
Also realize admins are not required to give warnings. Our server rules are posted on the MOTD chalkboard screen which shows up every time someone joins our servers and can also be found here:

Mistakes can happen and we can be lenient and give people second chances, but starting a ban dispute by screaming about "admin abuse", being rude, attacking the admin(s), servers or community or just generally being a shithead, reduces the odds of your being unbanned to pretty much 0.

Remember, you were banned because you broke the rules (except in the
very, very rare case of a mistake) and you are asking us to take time out of our day to help you/unban you. There is 0 benefit for us in unbanning someone who broke our rules and got banned, so if you can't manage to not give us shit or give us a hard time while trying to get unbanned we're much less likely to feel inclined to waste
our time to unban you.
Try taking responsibility for your actions, apologizing and making us feel confident that you won't do whatever it was that got you banned in the first place or anything else to get you rebanned in the future if you want to be unbanned.
Regarding "Admin Abuse" in Particular If an admin turns on god mode or noclip, that's admin abuse.
If you're being a shithead and an admin asks or tells you to stop, silences, kicks or bans you, it is not admin abuse, it's them doing what they are expected to do and you suffering the consequences of your own stupidity.
If you think the admins here are abusive, leave and play somewhere else - I'm sure you'll learn what real abusive admins are like.
We don't sell admin - anyone with admin was appointed admin - and if they are found to have actually used their admin abilities to "cheat", then they are reprimanded. If you don't like something an admin does or says, talk to Octo on steam chat. If you talk about it in game, argue or talk back to an admin, attempt to troll or harass an admin or are otherwise a disruption, you'll probably catch the boot.
Getting Someone Else UnbannedIf (and this is a big if) , you are not the person who was banned, but you were playing with a friend, and they got banned for something, you may politely vouch for the banned players strong desire to change their ways, and an admin may give the person a second chance.
If they continue to be a problem however, not only will they be rebanned,
the person who vouched for them may be banned as well.
This is mainly useful if your friend is on and keeps on calling you names or something similar, and an admin bans them thinking they are being a rude person, when actually they are just joking with you, their friend. Since we don't want to have players ruining the experience for others, as long as the "friend" can ease off of the crap talk, they can be unbanned.
