i thought the tip was going to be ...
RUN!!!
Actually I never run away.
Here's a tip for both video games and real life active shooter situations- Don't think of it as running, think of it as seeking a more strategic position. When a guy barges in the front door of your office building and blasts a guy, you're in a compromised situation. But running away may hurt you, you don't want to run into the line of sight of the shooter, instead, you want to seek a more strategic defensive position like slipping out through the back door. Or if you're standing right next to the shooter, running away creates a sudden movement, you're already in range of the active shooter, you'll just be the next target. Instead you would want to orient yourself on possible weaponry and move into a more strategic offensive position.
When I'm being chased by 5 guys while I have 5 hp, I'm headed to a more strategic defensive position, like a position with a healthpack. But at the same time, I'd also leave while at max hp, while being chased by 5 guys. I'm luring them to a more strategically offensive position, like a narrow hallway.
