Automated Bans
Ban Reason: "Slurs/derogatory language/racism"
We run automated bans based on chatlogs, etc. once every month/few months. The searches are run after the fact, so you don't actually have to be on the server at the time of the ban. The bans are made by steam id, so there is no mistake about someone with the same name saying something or whatever. It was your account that got flagged for whatever chat.
Ban Reason: "Alt of..."
This is an automated IP ban. Most of the time this is a secondary ban, if you click on the ban towards the bottom there is a "Total Bans" item with a number and a "Search" link to the right. Click on the "Search" link to show all the bans for that account, the first ban is the one that usually has the actual ban reason.
If you share an IP address with someone that is banned, this can occasionally lead to your account being banned because of the banned person. Follow the steps at the top of this post to file a ban protest, letting us know what the situation is (who the other account is, etc.) to get the IP unbanned.
Ban Reason: "Imported Ban/banned_user.cfg import"
Your ban was imported from an external list. The majority of the time (except for some very old bans) this is one of the "Slurs/derogatory language/racism" chat bans noted above.
Ban Reason: "Steam Group Ban"
You have been banned for being a member of a steam group causing problems on the servers. Any group that advocates hacking, trolling, griefing or other coordinated efforts to cause problems on the servers will likely get banned.
In some situations if a significant number of the members of a steam group are banned within a short time for causing problems on the servers, we will assume that it is either some coordinated effort, or that it is just a big group of assholes and ban the entire group.
Who you choose to associate with is your responsibility, if you don't want to be labelled a troll/griefer/hacker/asshole, probably best not to join a group of trolls/griefers/hackers/assholes.
Ban Reason: "Griefing on the Jump Servers"
The jump servers automatically ban for excessive killing to prevent/stop griefing and trolling. The servers display a text message every single time you kill someone saying it is going to ban you if you kill, so there is no valid excuse for continuing to kill until you are banned.
