2Fort vs Payload – Grudge Match

Posted on: June 11th, 2011 by The Jib

In a Crips vs Bloods-esque battle, 2Fort and Payload took to the streets to represent their home turf. A number that’s been floating around is Payloads undefeated 16-0 run versus 2Fort.. 2Fort had one thing in mind tonight, to show they were not to be taken lightly, and that the last 16 losses were merely flukes.

The match was a best of 3, encompassing each sides strengths to provide the most even playing field. The first map was 2Fort. 2Fort is a map where with two identical bases separated by a brid…. Oh wait you’ve played 2Fort before? Oh who knew.. Well you probably haven’t played 2Fort like the 2Fort squad has. 8 out of 10 2Fort players had more time logged on the map than they claimed on taxes this year.. And that fact was evident by taking home the W, their first in the grudge match history. For the sake of time, 2Fort was given the victory after the first capture – because we all know Payload turtles ; )

The second map played was Badwater, which is the equivalent to 2Fort in the Payload world. Both teams played offense and defense, but Payload emerged victorious at 2-0. 2Fort had an epic last stand on the last point on defense, however Payload pulled out some old school tricks for the win. 2Fort struggled on offense, as Payload gave up little ground.

Bringing the score to 1-1, the match was brought to a tiebreaker on Granary. A sudden death scenario, where the first team to win the round would earn the title of champion, and take home the $100,000 cash prize.. (wait what?) 2Fort did their best to hold the line, but Payloads teamwork was too strong. Winning the tiebreaker forever etched their name into Newbs history as champions, bringing the lifetime score to 18-1 in their favor.

Payloads voodoo was too strong for 2Fort.

We then took part in the customary ‘Pick the other teams classes’ round, just for giggles.

All talk was left on, much fun was had by all.. It’s always a good time to see people out of their comfort zone. Ggglygy held it down for the 2Fort team with some epic spy maneuvers, but sadly it wasn’t enough.. Payload was yet again victorious.

While Payload took home the match, 2Fort earned the respect of many with a win versus their strong opponent. It goes without saying that the Payload squad is the better team when it comes to capture point and payload maps, but no one.. And I mean no one, walks into 2Forts server and caps the intel.. And that’s something to hang your hat on 2Forters.

I’d like to give a big thanks to those who participated. It can be difficult to make video game plans and follow through, as previous skirmishes have shown. However I was very pleased to see a full 12v12 even into the tiebreaker. Big shout out to Crap and Anonymouse for organizing the event. Crap more-so on the admin side of things, and Anonymouse with setting a time and getting teams organized. Very nice work – the Newbs community thanks you for your efforts.

Until next time, stay classy San Diego.

Newbs Showdown: Payload Vs. 2Fort

Posted on: November 23rd, 2010 by The Jib

In case you missed the 12 page thread, we had an epic 12v12 / 11v11 highlander last night on cp_well.

Fisticuffs. The only way to settle a dispute.

People started filtering in 20 minutes early or so and we were looking to be right on schedule for our start time. However getting 24 people together does take some time. I think overall the load in was smooth-ish.

Take 1

Payload won the first game pretty handily. At this point the server was overwhelmed by the sheer awesome these teams were spewing and decided it needed to crash hard. It’s never been temperamental before, but Murphy’s Law states when you get a bunch of people together who are on a mild time schedule to kill each other.. There may be issues. The server rebooted pretty quickly and seemed much happier after that. 2Fort was not left without a few AWOL players, but that was solved pretty quickly. Thanks to some Newbs legends who answered their call to duty,(CarotidArtery, Yellow Frog, Stax) the game continued on at 11 v 11.

For those who persevered, I salute you.

Payload got the best of 2Fort and swept the first round (4-0). For the second round we thought it’d be fun to have each team pick the opposing teams classes. Payload had flexed their muscles, now it was time for some fun.

Pure comedy

Unfortunately I didn’t snap a screenshot until we had lost the third game, but you get the idea. It was a blast. We turned on all talk and just let loose. These games were actually pretty close, and with a ton of fail on both sides. Yellow Frog as scout, JiB as engy, Gabe as spy, and Gggly’s medic spam = Good times. In the end Payload had their way with 2Fort winning 7-0. The last game was the most epic, as 2Fort pushed the last point several times, but failed to take home a W. I was very happy with the turn out, and want to give a big thanks to Crap and Dondi for helping put this together. Crap helped keep the peace after the server crashed, and was kind enough to do a server gift once things got rolling again. Dondi did a great job coordinating the event, and keeping the thread updated. Octo also came through in the clutch while at Cotixan to get a few config issues sorted out.

Ultimately, I consider the evening to be a success. The Gauntlet has been thrown, and it’s only a matter of time until 2Fort shines like we all know they can. Newbs on Newbs – it just doesn’t get any better than that.

Posted on: February 15th, 2009 by octo dhd

On Monday morning the Newbs community suffered a great loss.  Servers that were important to the community were removed (they were originally scheduled for removal in late September 2008).  These servers were:

  • #1 (24/7 Dustbowl)
  • #2 (Jump Maps)
  • #2.5 (Jump Maps)
  • #3 (24/7 Badwater)

The other thing that went away was our old hosting for the website/database :(  It was a very sad day in Octoland…

The website and the forums were down for a day or two, but they were the easiest things to move since I had prepared for this day (poorly, but thats besides the point).  We only ended up losing about 1.5 days worth of forums posts and a few bans.

The game servers on the other hand are a lot trickier to handle without the involvement of a lot more money. Luckily these machines had only lost their internet home, and a new internet home was found for them.   And there was much rejoicing in the land!  But then oh no..  Hardware failure struck down the machine that runs the Jump servers and the Badwater server.  I spent Saturday evening working on getting this machine back onto the internet so that the games could resume.  So around midmight PST all 4 of the machines that went bye-bye were back.

  •  #1   24/7 Dustbowl        113.212.76.18:27015
  • #2   Jump Maps            113.212.76.6:27075
  • #2.5 Jump Maps            113.212.76.6:27135
  • #3   24/7 Bad Water       113.212.76.6:27015

Originally I was planning on _NOT_ bringing #3 (24/7 Badwater) back since I did not want to hurt the efforts to establish the Payload Rotation server.  After some short negotiations I was assured that there are PLENTY of people to play both.   To prove this point to me, Taraph75 also know as ‘Tara of Payload’ created a new steam group which she is actively trying to fill with payload enthusiasts Tara’s Payload Pimps This group will be used by her to coordinate all the payload love, so that next time a server has to move, all of her payload lovers can easily find it. :)
